Betroot Thoran 




Ingredients

1. Beetroot - 2
2. Green chilli - 3
3. Onion - 1 (small)
4. Mustard- 1 tsp
5. Shallots - 8
6. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
7. Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
8. Crushed chilli - 1 tsp +
9. Grated coconut - 5 tsp
10. Coconut Oil - 2 tsp + 1 tsp
11. Curry leaves 
  

Methods

1. First, finely chop beetroot. Then transfer to a bowl.
2. Add finely chopped onion, green chillies and salt. Mix it well and keep it aside for 10 minutes (mixing with hand recommended).
3. Heat a pan, add 2 tsp Coconut Oil.
4. When the oil is heated, add mustard, curry leaves, finely chop shallots and crushed red chillies. Saute it well.
5. Then add turmeric powder and chilli powder. Mix it well.
6. When the raw smell is gone from the turmeric powder, add the beetroot mix (from step 2). Mix it and cover it.
7. When the water is dried up, add some water and stir occasionally.
8. When the beetroot is 3/4 cooked, add grated coconut and continuously mix it well.
9. If you want it more spicy, add 1/2 tsp crushed chillies.
10. Finally add 1 tsp coconut oil and some curry leaves. Turn off the flame.
11. Then cover it, after 5 minutes open the lid and mix it well.

Enjoy your spicy beetroot thoran with rice or chapati.
