Semiya Upma / Vermicelli Upma


Ingredients 

1. Vermicelli / Semiya - 1 cup
2. Mustard - 1 tbs
3. Urad dal - 1 tsp
4. Ginger -  1/2 tsp
5. Dry red chilli - 2
6. Onion - 1/2
7. Green chilli - 2
8. Carrot - 1/2
9. Green Peas - 1/4 cup (after soaking)
10. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
11. Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
12. Hing - 2 pinch
13. Salt - to taste
14. Oil - 2 tbsp
15. Water - 1 1/4 cup
16. Salt - to taste
17. Coriander leaves - 1 1/2tbs


Method 

1. Soak Peas in water for at least 4 - 5 hours or over night.
(If you have frozen Peas then skip this step).
2. After that pressure cook the soaked peas by adding salt and water for 1 whistle.
3. Roast vermicelli till it gets light brown colour, once roasted remove it to a plate and keep it aside. 
4. Heat oil in a kadai, then splutter Mustard seeds and urad dal. 
5. Add small pieces of dry red chillies, finely chopped ginger, onion and green chillies.
6. When Onion becomes translucent add 10 - 13 ingredients and add carrot. Then saute for few minutes.
8. When carrot turn soft, then add roasted Vermicelli and boiled Peas.
9. Add hot water, mix everything nicely and cook this covered for 5 - 6 minutes or till all the water is absorbed.
10. Finally add chopped coriander leaves.
11. Fluff up the upma and mix.


  Move it to a serving bowl and serve hot with tea or coffee.
