Kootu Curry ( Sadya Special Kootu Curry)

Ingredients

1. Raw Banana - 1 (cubes)
2. Yam - 150 g (cubes)
3. Black chana (Black chickpeas) - 1/2 Cup
4. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
5. Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
6. Pepper powder - 3/4 tsp
7. Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
8. Grated coconut - 6 tbs+ 5 tbs
9. Mustard - 1 tsp
10. Dry red chilli - 3
11. Coconut oil - 2 1/2 tbs
12. Curry leaves - 2 spring
13. Salt - to taste
14. Water

Methods

1. Firstly, Soak Black chana (Black chickpeas)  in enough water for around 5 hours.
2. After soaking drain all the water and wash the black chana. 
3. Then transfer the black chana into the pressure cooker, add salt and enough water. Cover and pressure cook for 5 whistles on medium flame.
5. When the pressure is gone, open the pressure cooker and drain the water.
6. Take a clay pot, add Raw banana, yum, turmeric powder, chilli powders, pepper powder, salt and some water and mix it.
7. Cover the pot with a lid and cook it in medium flame.
8. When the yum and raw banana are 3/4 cooked, add cooked black chana and mix it well. (If the water is dried up then add some water, Do not add too much water. Kootu curry should be thick).
9. Take a small mixer jar, add 6 tbs grated coconut and cumin seeds, then grind it. 
Grind to a semi fine paste.
9. When the veggies are cooked well, then add grinded coconut paste and mix it well. (If you like it to be sweet, add 1 tsp jaggery)
10. When the curry is boiled, switch off the flame and cover it. Keep it aside.
11. Take a small frying pan, heat 2 1/2 tsb coconut oil. Add mustard, curry leaves, dry red chilles and 5 tbs grated coconut. Saute it and maintain low flame.
12. When the grated coconut turns golden brown, switch off the flame.
13 Add this mixture in the kootu curry. Mix it well and cover it.

Enjoy your kootu curry with steamed rice!
